This recipe was easy to make, had two of my favorite flavors, almond and lemon. It looked and smelled delicious but.....I must have under cooked it. The cake browned nicely, Dorie said it would be somewhat moist. I cut a warm piece, it seemed too moist. I let the cake cool; it was still too moist and quite greasy. Will I try and perfect it? Probably not--there are too many other recipes I want to try.
Check the TWD site, others had good luck with this simple recipe. This recipe can be found on Nancy's Blog, she is our gracious host this week.
Your cake looks so pretty and I know that it smelled divine. Bummer that its taste didn't live up to expectations for you. As you say, tons of other great recipes out there, though! Thanks for baking along with me this week.
ReplyDeleteThe second picture is my favorite. I can see the delicious sugar sprinkled on top and the almonds are perfectly toasted.
ReplyDeleteMine sunk in the middle, but that is okay.
ReplyDeleteIt tastes fabulous.
I'm sorry it wasn't what you were hoping for, but it does look lovely. So many recipes, so little time, right? ;o)
ReplyDeleteOh bummer! How long did you bake it? Is your oven temperature correct? I didn't realize before I got an oven thermometer that my oven was 10degrees off! I hope you'll find time to give it another go. It really is a delicious cake.

Aw, your cake looks sad :( You get an A for effort though, for trying it!
ReplyDeleteToo bad you weren't over the moon about this... Mine sunk a little bit, but it still tasted great!
ReplyDeleteIt's so disappointing when a recipe doesn't live up to expectations. But like you said, there are so many others out there! Hopefully you at least got the yummy smell out of it!
ReplyDeleteIt was greasy...hmmm that stinks..I havn't heard anything wrong with the cake until now. Oh well I guess you can't win them all!
ReplyDeleteIt looks good!:)
Bummer that is wasn't as good as you thought it was going to be! SO many recipes they are not all bound to be our favorites. :)
ReplyDeleteMine took longer than I expected it to, even though I only made a half recipe. I kind of like cakes that are still a bit squidgy in the middle though:) Onward and upward!
ReplyDeleteThat is one of the things I like about this group...sometimes the recipes are winners and sometimes they aren't, but it's always fun to try something new. Your cake looks great in the photos. :)
ReplyDeleteBummer that it didn't work. I was thinking that it could stand a bit less butter.
ReplyDeleteIt looks terrific! We used similar pans to bake the cake in.
ReplyDeleteSo nice stopping by to visit with you and peruse your great place here!
Kindly, ldh
Sorry that happened! We loved it here :)
ReplyDeleteCiao !! Lovely cake anyway !!!
ReplyDeleteSorry the cake didn't taste as yummy as it looks for you! It looks so pretty in your pan! I love lemon and almond flavors too!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! You are right though - sometimes the stars just don't line up in the kitchen. Thankfully, there are plenty of other great recipes out there!
ReplyDeleteOh, this post broke my heart. This cake was probably one of the best things I've made from TWD, and it didn't blow you away! Whaaaa. At least it looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a shame! Sorry it wasn't a hit for you. But plenty more recipes to try! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo sorry this was not a hit for you. Might be something to do with your altitude there? It was a big hit here, but I did not have the same problems you had with moistness, etc. Yours looks good!
