TWD Vanilla Ice Cream Tart

Think of the best ice cream sandwich you have ever eaten...Now, think of eating it 'open-faced'...
That would best describe Dorie Greenspan's Vanilla Ice Cream Tart.
The tart crust reminded me of an almond sugar cookie. Toasted almonds, brown sugar, flour, butter and an egg came together quickly in my trusty food processor. The dough was easily patted in a buttered tart pan. The crust baked 28 minutes, which was a little too long in my oven. Once out of the oven I sprinkled the hot crust with very mini chocolate chips from KAF. The chocolate melted quickly.
Back to the food processor, toasted almonds were processed till 'almond butter' appeared. Have I mentioned that I love my food processor?? Softened ice cream was added which resulted in a delicious almond vanilla ice cream. And the rest would just be dessert history.

The complete recipe can be found on Jessica's Blog. I expect to see many fun variations of this recipe from other TWD bakers.

  1. That looks sooo good. I wish we were there to help you eat it. :) Thanks again for the darling book for Dean. He has been in desperate need of new books. He wouldn't put it down and when I picked it up to read it, he snuggled down into my lap excited for me to read it to him. Thanks.

  2. I love my food processor too - it is worth its weight in gold. You are right about the open faced icecream sandwich - that is just what it is. My only gripe is that the crust was too hard to bite into while frozen.

  6. Wow, your description (and photos) sound so good. I was afraid to make the crust as many complained about it being rock hard on the P&Q. The almond added to the ice cream sounds great!

  10. Oh, wow can you ever drizzle nicely. I think I need to take a whole day off and do nothing but learn how to drizzle. I cannot drizzle to save my life, it just all clumps together and is a big mess...no need to visit this week for proof, really, you will just lose all respect for me. lol Yours looks great!

  11. Beautiful tart, especially the drizzle. My food processor didn't like the cold, cold ice cream, but I think it's ok now.

  15. THat is one beautiful tart Cindy. Great job. I wish I could make my food as pretty as you do. And by the way, when I was a child, I wanted an easy bake oven too but my mom was too practical as well. I was always so envious of my friends who had them.

  16. Hi Cindy! visiting you back from A Moderate Life. I am now following your blog. This open faced tart looks simply delicious! I am not a huge sweets fan, but chocolate, lemon and vanilla treats do speak to me! You should link this up to my Tackling Bittman and his buddies recipe hop http://bit.ly/ig2gJo because you can share recipes from any cookbook author! All the best, Alex
